Bucket List

Published by lisalinth44 at 8:50 am under Uncategorized Edit This

As I approach the big “4-0″ b-day, I find myself reflecting on my life a lot and trying to figure out where I want to go from here. I can’t say that I have ever been one to make specific life goals, which is very surprising when you consider how much of a planner and worry-wort I am. I can’t really think of a concrete goal I have made recently.

In my teens, I made a specific goal to win the State Championship on Balance Beam. After lots of extra practice time, that goal was realized the following spring. After that, I think I have just “generalistic visions” of being happy in mind. But, I am determined now to “take charge” and develop some concrete goals and do everything I can to pursue them to a successful conclusion.

So here’s what I want to do before I “kick the bucket”:

I have always wanted to go to Egypt to see the pyramids. I promise myself that I will stand next to them someday. In the meantime, I will read books and do research to learn all I can about them.

I have always wanted to learn a foreign language. I currently know just enough Spanish to get myself in trouble if I try to converse with someone who speaks it fluently. I will work hard on learning it much better.

I have always wanted to have a book published. I have stopped and started writing a book more times than I can count. I am not sure how I’m going to realize this one - but I know that my blogging and writing projects have definitely gotten my creative juices flowing much better these days. I will work hard at getting a “By Lisa Linthicum” book in my hand.

I want to read the entire Bible. I’m embarrassed to admit that I have not accomplished this one yet. I think I have read most of it over the years, but I would like to read it completely front cover to back cover. I will try to accomplish this one soon as I feel a strong desire to increase my knowledge and strength in my faith so that I can be a better leader for my kids.

Now for some goals that are a little less concrete in nature -

I want to learn how to be one of those Mom’s who always looks great and has things totally under control. Laundry is caught up, healthy meals are served, house is always nice and neat, etc. I realize this is probably not possible (especially for me since I loathe laundry) - but it is a nice thing to shoot for.

I want to create tons of happy memories that my kids will cherish for the rest of their lives.

I want to learn how to express my emotions better - I tend to bottle them up because I don’t want to rock the boat.

I want to learn how to be more comfortable in my own skin. (Thankfully, I’m making progress on this one.)

So… there you have it - My Bucket List. (I do reserve the right to revise it at any time I see fit.)

What’s on your list?
