17 years ago today my husband and I got married. In many ways it’s hard to think back vividly to that day - and yet there are some details that feel extremely fresh in my mind. So many things have happened and/or changed since our wedding day - but I am proud to say that we’re still together and working together to make a happy life for us and our kids.
In the years since our wedding, many things have happened.
Tim and I have mourned the deaths of both of our fathers. The losses still resonate in many ways, and both men are missed immensely.
Since getting married we have lived in 9 different homes - and in 3 different states. We have endured job stresses and changes galore.
We have watched siblings get married and have children.
We have enjoyed tons of fun trips - destinations including Las Vegas, Seattle, Cancun, Kansas City, Ski Country in Colorado, Big Cedar Lodge and the beaches of Florida. We have learned how to cook gourmet meals together including sushi, Cuban food, and of course our favorite steak dinners.
We have firmly established inside jokes that only we get.
While I sometimes get frustrated at him, and I know that he gets frustrated at me too - he definitely knows when to come to my rescue and what to do in those moments.
We have supported each other through a devastating miscarriage and joyfully celebrated the birth of three magnificent children.
The past two years have been especially difficult for so many different reasons. Most couples would have been torn apart. Some how, we’re still together and I’m thankful for that.
I’m feeling very nostalgiac as I reflect on our wedding day — my permed hair and poufy bangs, my Princess Diana-esque poofy over the top dress, the way Tim said his vows, that magical kiss at the end of the ceremony and our first experience dining at the Warren Duck Club.
Yeah, us!!!
