Sarasota Sunday Alarm Clock
I have been trying to catch up on my sleep since those antibiotics last week kept me up all hours of the night. Thankfully, my two young sons who normally wake up anywhere between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. have been sleeping in a little later too.
Last night, I took out my contacts after tucking the munchkins in their beds and propped myself up on some pillows in my bed. Hubby kissed me goodnight and headed to the living room to watch a movie. I’m certain that I was snoozing by 9 p.m. I slept soundly until I heard the pitter patter of little feet and some quiet voices. As I listened closely, I realized that one of the voices belonged to Sofie — I immediately rolled over and looked at the clock because she is our late sleeper. The clock read “7:24″ - I couldn’t believe it.
I plopped my head back on my comfy pile of pillows and closed my eyes. Suddenly the shrill vibrato calls of 2 sandhill cranes filled the air. I am awestruck by the beauty and size of these endangered birds, but did they have to be so noisy so early in the morning?
My two awake munchkins giggled on the couch. As they heard me getting out bed, Conner said, “Thank goodness for sandhill cranes.” I stumbled to the bathroom and put in my contacts. I went to the window and looked out at the lake. The two sandhill cranes were on the shore with their heads tucked into their bodies - trying to sleep. I thought about running over to them and yelling to wake them up - but since they are 4 feet tall with 8 foot wing spans - I guess I’ll just get started making breakfast for my family instead.
Happy Sunday, everyone!
