Cheap Date

Published by lisalinth44 under Uncategorized Edit This

Yesterday as we were taking the kids to their Taekwondo class, we noticed that the $1.50 movie theatre was showing MADAGASCAR 2. Tim and I decided that we would take the entire family to see it later. Ian has never been to a movie, so we were excited to see how he would react to the big screen, the loudness of the sounds, the seats and the other people.

Tim and I used to go see lots of movies B.W.H.K. (before we had kids). Since 1999, our movie going has pretty much evaporated. Tim has taken Conner (and sometimes Sofie) to see movies on occasion - but we really don’t go very often at all. I may see a movie at the theatre once a year - maybe.

Anyway, after lunch yesterday we told the kids that we were going to go to the movies to see MADAGASCAR 2. We also explained that we would not be buying any food at the theatre - no popcorn, no candy, no drinks. We quickly added that we would enjoy some ice cream when we got back home. Everyone excitedly got their shoes on and we headed out to the movie.

We were surprised by the line of cars turning into the shopping center where the movie theatre is. Then we realized that we weren’t the only ones excited by a cheap movie and the opportunity to get out and do something fun - and since the temps were in the 50’s with a stiff wind - it felt COLD to us Floridians - so we had to head inside for our activities.

We parked far away and took off down the sidewalk. The crowd was quite large and the line was quite long at the theatre. We had several nice conversations with folks as we waited in line - of course most of our fellow movie-goers were elderly, but they were very sweet and kind.

We got our tickets and headed off. The previews had already started as we found our seats. The theatre was fairly full. Ian started out on my lap and was perfectly still. I thought he was going to fall asleep. (This was his nap time afterall.) Then about 10 minutes in to the movie, he hopped up and started investigating the folding seats and the lights along the floor of the aisle. He was quiet - but determined to figure this stuff out. I really don’t know how much of the movie he saw - but his siblings enjoyed the movie and his dad got to take a cat nap - so it was a successful outing.

And a cheap one… we paide $7.50 for all five of us to get in to the movie. Then we enjoyed ice cream when we got home.
